Starting the Semester

Because I have already taken some of this course before it was a good refresher to go through all of the organization tips for this semester. I found bookmarks last semester to be very useful and recommend them to everyone. I also wanted to point out how much I enjoy the new Canvas system. At first I was hesitant to start using it because it was new, but after jumping in I love it so much more. I recommend using the canvas app if you have an Iphone or Ipad. It is easy to use and really helps you stay on top of your school work. Good Luck on this semester everyone!

Growth Mindset

Striving to be a teacher, I really enjoyed these pieces. I felt it was great information that I had never heard or thought of before, but made complete sense. The idea of changing how we encourage students in such a small way making such a huge impact was crazy for me to watch and learn about. I think I will keep this information with me not only through my semester but also for when I become a teacher and how I interact with my students.

HEART

Learning and exploring the HEART blog made me understand there are other people out there that struggle. I was diagnosed with depression in September and have been struggling with it since then. I think watching the OU mental illness video ( I put it below) helped me be okay with sharing this and being open to people knowing. I have told some of my family and friends and I have had good and bad reactions to the news. I think the most important thing for me was understanding that there is nothing wrong with me because of this. It happens and most of the time is decided through your make up and not actually the situations. My therapist describes it like a glass that is filling with water (situations) some people, like me, have a smaller cup and that cup overfills a lot quicker and easier then others. I think learning about this stuff is important and really appreciate our professor making it a point to talk and teach about it.

Reading options

Hello,
I have Chosen the second choice, the online domain version. I was first drawn to this one because it was easy to get and free. I then started reading the first chapter in it and got intrigued. I only read a paragraph but it made me want to read more.

I am honestly so excited for all aspects of this class. I have no experince in this genre and so I am so excited to get to read all of the different pieces.

Storybook Favorites

I enjoyed so many of the pieces it was hard to pick only three. The ones that I chose were Lord Rama:  The Greatest OU Football PlayerCSI: Indian Epics, and  The Real Housewives of Ramayana. I started off with ones that sparked my interest and ended up reading more then just the introduction. I thought the topics was unique and kept me interested throughout the whole introduction and it gave me a clear idea of what the piece was going to be. All the titles gave pretty good ideas of what was going to be expected during the storybook. The design was also unique on each blog and gave me a few ideas of how broad we can take this. I did not quite understand what the assignment was going to be or how creative we could get and by reading these three options I was able to understand that more. I think my favorite one was the CSI one because that is something I watch and am thinking of ways to do a similar theme. It also did an amazing job at designing for the theme. I really had the idea that it was going to be a diary just on the design and the background.  The other two were unique and interesting and gave other good options. Now after reading these I am excited to see were I can take this assignment and how unique and interesting I can take my storybook. I am not normally the most creative person but I feel like this might be a different story. Overall these three stories gave me great ideas to push forward and plan for my storybook post in the future. Who knows which one I will use or what I will come up with on my own for this project.

Introduction to me

Hello!

My name is Asaleigh but most of my friends and family call me Ace. I'll respond to either so feel free to chose either one. I grew up in Bend Oregon and moved here for school. I miss home sometimes but enjoy the experience I am gaining by being in Oklahoma. To switch it up I thought I would give a couple fun facts for my introduction.

One is that I am fluent in American Sign Language. I started my freshman year in high school and have continued learning and using it through today. I plan on getting my interpreting license after graduating with my Language Arts Education Degree. I enjoy it more then any other hobby I have and plan on improving this skill for the rest of my life.

Another cool fact is that I have a puppy. She is Husky and Blue Heeler mix and is a playful 9 months old old. She also is already so spoiled by everyone in her life. She keeps me busy for sure. She is my first puppy and has been a life style change in the few short weeks I have had her. Her name in Lucca and is the sweetest  little thing you will ever meet. She is supposed to get the size of a lab and have tons of personality because of the two breeds she is. I will try and keep updates on her throughout the semester on how big she is getting and different milestones she hits.

Hope you enjoyed a few fun facts and can not wait to learn more about all of you. I am excited to experience this class and the new idea of blogging. If you want to know more feel free to ask! I am an open book and will attempt to answer everything.

Week 1 Storytelling: Being New Is Not Always Fun

Being New Is Not Always Fun:

Scott was always moving thanks to his fathers job and he actually kind of liked it because he always got the new student attention. Starting Sage Elementary was just like every other time, or so he thought.

The morning started normal, getting introduced, trying to make new friends, failing to make friends, and finally the most important part of fourth grade, finding out when recess was. Scott, being the awkward person he is, asked the teacher and counted down the minutes till 10:30 so he could explore the new playground.

10:30 came around and he ran outside to find his favorite thing, the monkey bars. When he saw them he couldn't help but run and start climbing. As soon as he got all the way across he saw a fairly large boy walking up to the monkey bars. The kid had a mean face and Scott could tell this was not going to be good.

"Hey new kid! Where is my Ipod? I know you stole it!"

Scott looking confused and concerned responded with, "I didn't take your Ipod. I'm sorry its gone though. When did you lose it?"

"I lost it two days ago and I know you took it!"

Scott now getting a smile on his face said, "See, there is no way I could have taken it because I just got here today!"

The bully looked at him and thought for a minute. After he collected his thoughts he said, "Well then I know it was you who called me ugly! Someone told me it was you and your friends."

Scott again looked in confusion, "I do not think you are ugly and honestly have not made many friends so there was no way that was me."

Knowing he was not going to take no for an answer he looked at Scott and ends the conversation with, " I know you are not as innocent as you seem so I am going to teach you a lesson so you know where your place is."

With that final comment the bully grabbed Scott by his arm and dragged him beside the school building where none of the adults could see him giving Scott a black eye and a few scratches.

Scott will always remember that he can be the nicest soul and yet if someone wants to be mean and bully someone, they will no matter what.

Authors Notes:

For this story I chose to base it off of the Aesops Fable, The Wolf And The Lamb. This is a short story about a wolf who knows he is going to eat a lamb for breakfast no matter what. When he approaches the lamb he sees the innocence but finds any reason to eat the lamb even though the lamb defends all of the wolfs accusations. The moral of the story was that no matter what, if evil wants to do something they will.

My Favorite Place: Bend, Oregon

My Favorite place in the world is the place that I grew up. Bend, Oregon is a small town right in the middle of the state. It is a town based on outdoor activities and has a wide variety of weather throughout the year. We get four clear seasons with amazing winters for snow activities and a warm summer for long nights on the lake. I would love to live here again someday after I experienc a little more of the world.
