Famous Last Words

Well, after two semesters I did it! I finished the class. I felt like this day would never happen. This class was so fun for me and I really enjoyed doing the assignments and learning everything I did. I will take a lot of valuable lessons away from this class. One being time management and also creative writing. I am not the best at creative writing and this class really opened my eyes to how fun it can be. I also really enjoyed the diversity in the readings and assignments. The readings weren’t over the top difficult but the were really vivid and unique.
I will recommend this class and Laura as a professor all the time after the wonderful experience I had. I went through a car accident, depression, and much more through out my time taking this course and Laura was supportive and helpful through every step. She checked in on me and made sure that I had a new schedule to successfully complete the course. She was by far the most caring professor I have had during my college career. As a soon to be teacher myself I strive to be a teacher like Laura.

Now that I am finishing this class that means I am done with another semester and that means only two more to go! Hopefully this time next year I will be graduating and getting my degree. To think that I only have one year left is a bit scary. That means I have to be in the real world and completely be an adult. As much as I do now I still fell like taking that step and graduating is going to be my biggest accomplishment. I have no idea what the world holds for me when I leave OU but I am sure its going to be great.

Reading Notes: The Elephant

Reading Notes:
·      An elephant lived on a oasis in the desert.
·      He heard strange voices in his ears one day.
·      He thought they were lost.
·      He asked them about where they came from and where they were going.
·      The men were happy to hear the elephant.
·      They were kicked out of their town by their king.
·      They needed water and food badly.
·      He told them to go to the great elephant at the end of the hill and he will give them things.
·      The elephant crashed to the bottom of the hill.
·      They thought it was the same elephant and felt like they had to eat him to save them.

·      They ate him and survived.

Learning Challenge: Attention

I really liked this meme because it is true! If you pause even for just a few minutes you are able to see a different side of things and you're able to go about a situation with a clear mind.

Tech Tip: Canvas Profile

I rally enjoyed this tech tip because I had no idea it did that and enjoyed personalizing my account. I think it is awesome that we could do that because we spend so much time on there it was nice to personalize it so its not so boring.

Portfolio Index

Let's get lost in a fairy tale known as...  "The Wedding".

Come see a friendship in the making from the eyes of a crab and a baby elephant in, "The Crab and His Friends."

Follow "The Three Pups" through their crazy mountain adventure.

Improvements

I really like all the ideas for the changes! I especially like the Planning weeks idea and the thematic weeks. I think the themes will make it interesting and will help the class stay new and not boring. I also think having a planning week would start the class off with a good jump start that will help students start  making good habits at the beginning.

Learning Challenges: Empathy

I really enjoyed this meme because I feel like it is so true. I have had to work on my patience and tolerance a lot lately and this really spoke to me. It's so true that the people you dislike the most require the most patience and if we can push through it with them we can push through it with everyone.

Tech Tip: Canvas notifications

I set up my notifications right when I started using canvas at the beginning of the fall semester, but now I am glad I did this tech tip because after having these notifications for a semester I now know what I actually need and what I don't need. I think I set up a bunch of notifications at the beginning and now I was able to adapt them a little better to the ones I really needed.

Reading Notes: The Young Parrot

Reading Notes:
·      In the woods a flock a parrots lived with their king and queen in the cotton trees.
·      The king and queen grew old and their young beautiful parrot child was a prize.
·      He offered to go get food form the fields for his old parents and bring it back.
·      He did this every day until he found a field that they started eating at and the farmer told the master that all the parrots were eating his rice.
·      The farmer showed the master the beautiful parrot and the master told him to catch him.
·      He caught him and took him to his owner  and the bird told him why he took the rice with him.
·      He let him go and they all lived happy.

Portfolio: The Three Pups

Deep up in the mountains of Colorado there was a small town with not much structure and order. There were constantly people coming through but no one ever stopped to see what this small, mysterious town was about. If people did stop they would have found a town full of stray dogs; they were all ages from newborn puppies to old wise dogs. All of these dogs came from different backgrounds, such as abusive homes, owners passing away, and some were even born and raised there.

Finally some hikers were hiking those same mountains and walked right into a group of the dogs on the outskirts of this town. The group they walked into were three younger dogs that had a ton of differences from breed, age and color but were the best of friends. They had been friends since they could remember. They were wild souls that roamed free and had zero cares in the world.

Remington and Lucca
The oldest dog was named Remington. He was a black Labrador Retriever who started out as a hunting dog and was by far the smartest and most aware of the group. He had lost his owner when he was only two years old and wandered into the mountains where he found his first best friend, Lucca. Lucca was a younger Husky who was somewhat aware of what was happening but got distracted easily from the task at hand. Now Lucca had decided she was going to run away from her home. Not because she had a rough life... she just wanted to be free and run until she couldn’t run anymore. Finally the baby of the group was Reed. He never had any clue what was going on and always loved everyone that was around. He was a Standard Poodle that would walk up to any old stranger and just love on them. Reed had gotten distracted and walked away from his owner one day and had been lost forever. All three dogs brought something unique and interesting to the group and kept them all together.

Reed
When the hikers walked by, all three dogs looked up and stared. Remi, being the smart one, stayed down to try and hide, but Lucca stood up but remembered they were strangers and stayed where she was. Now Reed saw them and before anyone could hold him back Reed ran to the hikers and jumped up begging for all the love he could get. When the other two dogs saw that the hikers weren't hurting Reed, they slowly walked over to the hikers and allowed the strangers to pet them. Remi on the other hand let them pet him but he was on edge ready to run at any time. While looking around he heard the hikers planning a trip back through to capture a dog so they could have a hiking companion. He knew then and there it was his duty to keep his best friends safe.
Days went by after the hikers had left and he was keeping an eye out but there was nothing. About two weeks after the encounter Remi smelt a strange smell in the air and was looking around to find the source. Finally he spotted the hikers far in the woods with ropes and leashes. As they started whistling he could see both Lucca and Reed looking around to find the source. He yelled out and told them not to run but it was too late. Both had started that way. When he yelled Lucca got back on track and turned around, but Reed was too far gone. He ran straight into their trap where they quickly had captured Reed and took him on their way. As much as they wanted to chase after them they knew they wouldn't make it out if they followed. Lucca and Remington cried and were sad for weeks, but they knew that one day if Reed could get away he would come back to them.

Author’s Notes:
This piece was a unique transition to the The story of the Three Fish.” Three fish were living peacefully when some fishermen came to catch them. When the fish found this out the firs fish ran into the outsource of the pond, the second one pretended to be dead, and the third got caught because it didn't plan a way out. The fish did a similar thing where they were all different on how they stayed away from the fishermen and finally one fish got caught because it didn’t have any awareness of the situation around them. Now the other fish did not try to help that fish which also makes my story feel a little bit lighter and an easier read, plus instead of getting eaten like the end of the fish story there is hope that one day Reed will come back to them. I feel like this story has a moral of being aware what is around you and listening to advice of the people you care about. I switched the theme from fish to dogs because I enjoy dogs a lot more and on top of that the three dogs I used are three dogs in my life that all have these personality types. I wanted to write about them because they are my favorite beings in the world and I thought I would be able to really expand the characters because of how personal it is. Lucca is my personal dog that I talked about earlier this semester and then Remington and Reed are my nephews or “god dogs”. All of them make my life a better and I hope this story can do the same for the reader.

Story Planning: The Three Pups

Story Planning:

Authors Notes:

Here is my idea for my next story. I think I can turn this into a pretty detailed story where the hikers are trying to capture the three dogs and how the dogs outsmart them and how Remington saves the other two dogs when they let their guard down and allow the hikers to capture them. I think this piece will be a unique transition to the three fish story and the fishermen. They did a similar thing where they were all different on how they stayed away from the fishermen and finally one got caught. I switched the theme form fish to dogs because I enjoy dogs a lot more and on top of that the three dogs I used are three dogs in my life that all have these personality types.
