Reading Notes: The Talkative Tortoise

·      He lived in a pond
·      All he did was talk, constantly.
·      The fish wanted to live on land to get away form the tortoises chattering.
·      His friends, the geese, flew around the pond looking for food.
·      When they heard he was annoying everyone they flew to him to warn him.
·      They asked him to come to the mountains with them.
·      He agreed and the geese offered to fly him around if he kept his mouth shut.
·      Some boys say the geese carrying a tortoise and started yelling about it.
·      He forgot to keep his mouth shut and he fell off the stick while mouthing off to the boys below.

·      The tortoise fell and cracked his shell and died and was left there for dead.

HEART: Time

I am the queen at procrastination so I decided to learn about time management and think about who I can better spend my time. I think I need to start doing things in advance rather than waiting until the last minute. I have gotten into this bad habit because of working and school and so many other factors but from here on out I am going to set a goal of not waiting until the last possible second to finish my assignments.

Famous Last Words: Other Class

I only have one other class this semester and that is a psych class for education majors. In this class I have a test on this upcoming Tuesday that I have been studying for a while. The topic covered on the test is classroom management and through studying and learning about this I have learned a lot. We talked about how to create classroom rules and how to keep your classroom under control. I think this class not only has helped me prepare for the future as a teacher but also helped me in classes right now. Creating rules for myself during the school year and keeping everything organized are a few examples. This class has also helped me learn a better way to take notes. I learned that if I take notes on a notecard from the beginning then I am not as stressed towards the end of the unit before the exam. This was probably one of my favorite classes because of the content and the valuable knowledge that I learned. I am excited to use these tips and techniques in my other classes in the future and even ore excited to use them in my classroom when I become a teacher. I had to take this class last semester and dropped it because of medical reasons that occurred throughout the semester and when I retook it I had no idea I would have learned so much. I got in a car accident in February that not only caused me to retake this class (Indian Epics), but also the psych class. Even though retaking these classes sucked I think that it was for the better and I learned more then I would have ever learned last semester or even just not retaking it. I will recommend both of those classes anytime to anyone at the university of Oklahoma.

Growth Mindset: Talking to a friend

I took some time to talk to my roommate about growth mindset and got to teach her about a new concept. She said at work she is always dealing with different people and different situations and therefor she is constantly trying to grow as a person. She has a coworker who always corrects her and instead of being offended she has learned to just take it and grow with it.

Tech Tip: Canvas Calendar

I am a planner for the most part so this calendar is actually really helpful. I am used to writing everything in a planner and this is a place where all my classes have all my assignments right there for me to look at and keep track of.

Storytelling: The Giant Crab

The giant crab lived in the deep waters of a lake in Oregon. He was a sad crab but everyone only saw him as dangerous and mean.  He didn’t understand why! Typically what happened when he tried to meet new friends, was he would show his face and everyone would freak out. Then one of the animals would panic so bad they would end up drowning and while he was trying to save them everyone thought he was eating them and so they built up this hatred for him. Every day for years he did the same thing over and over again until he thought of a new way to show them he is their friend. He would sneak up on them and then they would have to listen to him. So, instead of showing his face he would swim deep under the water until he got to them and he would tap them on the foot and when he did that he realized he got the same ugly response from them. He was so hurt and sad that he gave up and decided to live alone forever.
One morning a young elephant slowly wobbled down to the lake with his mother and pack. This was his first time down to the lake and he was so excited. When he got there his mother sat him down and gave him the long lecture on how to be safe around the water and to look out for the crab. The elephant listened impatiently while dreaming of how cold the fresh water will feel on his back. Finally, his mother told him to go have fun. He watched as the big elephants stood guard watching for the rest of the pack as he ran into the water. As he ran he noticed the crab sitting far away to the west just sitting and watching everyone as they played and had a blast. He decided he was going to walk over and say hi. He slowly started walking that direction, making sure his mom did not see him slip away.
He slowly walked up to the crab and with a brave voice said, “Hello, Mr. Crab My name is Erik the Elephant and I wanted to know if you wanted to play with me.”
The crab slowly turned around and with tears in his eyes said, “Are you sure you want to play with me? No one really likes me and I don’t want to cause problems.”
The Elephant laughed and said of course we want you! Come on!”
From that moment on not only were the elephant and the crab best of friends but everyone respected the crab and realized that he was not mean. The crab got to explain himself and apologized for all of the problems that he had caused in the past.

The Moral of the story is don’t judge a book by its cover and always accept people for who they are. You never know when you are going to run across a crab in your life that could end up being your best friend.

Authors Notes: I really enjoyed writing this piece. I very rarely get to write childrens stories and so this was fun for me. I also enjoyed the fact that I could put a moral at the end because I felt like the story had a meaning. I hope you enjoy it!

The Dishonest Friend

·      A man needed to go on a journey and so he asked a friend to take charge of his plough until he returned.
·      The friend promised to make sure and take good care of it.
·      The friend sold the land and pocketed the money.
·      His excuse was that a rat came and ate it up one day.
·      He knew it was not eaten by a rat but he had another plan.
·      He took the friends son out for a walk the next day and took him some distance.
·      He took the friends son to a different friends house and told him to not let him go until he returned.
·      He ran back to the boys father and told him a hawk had swooped him up and carried him off.
·      They went before the judge to see if this was true or not.
·      The judge told the man after hearing both sides that if he found the plough maybe the son would be found too.
·      He brought the plough back to the man and the man returned his son.

·      The stingy man soon realized honesty is the best policy.
